- 大好きなランドナースタイルでのキャンプ、フルフェンダーのバイクでの飛行機輪行。普段の通勤にパニアバッグを追加しただけ。OZETTE(現行名は「peregrine」)に着替えやら取り出す物入れて、パニアバッグに寝袋、マット、テントが入ってます。スマートって言われたけどガスバーナーやらお皿やらは皆に何とかしてもらう気満々だったから少ないのは当たり前。 Camping with my favorite style, the rando style was fun and airplane rinkoing a full fender bike was a challenge. I added the pannier bags to my daily commute set up. That's pretty much it. I packed my clothes and other stuff I need to constantly take out in the Ozette (now Peregrine) bag and put all the camping gear, such as a sleeping bag, tent, matress, etc. People said my bikepacking was well and simple. Little did they know, I didn't bring any cooking utensils becuase I knew the rest of the crew would bring them so I depended on them.

荷物はなるべく細かい袋でパッキングするのではなく、大きい袋に細かい荷物もまとめて展開も撤収も楽になるように意識。
evasion liteめちゃくちゃ調子よかったです。evasionがダートツアラーなだけあって荷物持っていても安定感は抜群。650×50mmのタイヤに変えていったのでオンロードでの転がりと安定感のバランス良し。クロスフレームよりも太いタイヤが入れられるので今回みたいな荷物を積んでのツーリングにオンロードの登坂、おまけにダートもあるようなシチュエーションはどの区間も満足に楽しめた。 Instead of packing a bunch of small bags, I focused on packing small things in a few big bags, so that I can take everything I need out quickly when arriving at the camp and put everything away quickly when leaving.
The Evasion Lite was awesome. Since the Evasion is a dirt touring bike, the stability was outstanding when the bike was fully loaded. I changed my tires to 650Bx50mm so this also helped stabilizing the ride and rolled very well on pavement. This bike can take wider tires than a cross frame, so this kind of mixed terrain bikepacking ride is right up its alley

- 行き帰りの輪行でバイクに持たせた荷物を外すことがわかっていたので、外したミニバッグたちを一つにまとめて持ち歩くために137toteを使用。ガバッと開いた口にポイポイ出し入れできるのも旅全体を通して楽で役立ちました。バスケットは買い出しの時便利。キャンプ場ではテーブルとして、飛行機輪行時にはリアエンドのカバーとしても使えました。 I new that I had to carry all the bags on the bike by hand when rinkoing, so I broght the 137 tote, to put in all my small bags in. Thanks to the huge bag opnening, I was able to throw in and take out a lot of stuff quickly, so the bag came in handy thtoughout the whole trip. The basket helps when you need to put all the groceries you bought for the camp. I also used the basket as a table when camping and used it as a protecter for my bike's rear end when airplane rinkoing.

- 普段キャンプへ行くときは持って行きすぎることが多いので、今回はバッグの装備を先に決めて容量に合わせて持っていくものを決めました。その中で快適に過ごせるレベルを上げていく作戦。フルフレームバッグを初めて使いましたが、見た目以上の容量で大活躍でした！メインポケットにテント一式とタープのポールを収納。サブポケットには六角やボレーストラップなど、さっと取り出すことの多いものを収納しました。 I always bring too much stuff when camping, so this time I chose the bike bags first and decided what I needed to bring, judging by the capacity of those bags. This was my first time using a full sized frame bag and it was a game changer! I put my tent and the poles for my tarp in the main compartment and put my wrenches and voile straps in the sub pocket.

- 通勤でも使うエブリデイバイクなので、普段の状態から「少しだけ背伸びをしてパッキングできる」をテーマにしました。最終的にリアラックにそんなにモノをのせなかったけど、据えるバッグ次第ではもっとたくさん収容できそう。天気予報をチェックし暑がりな自分は、寝袋は急遽キャンセルしてタオルケット就寝を選択。おかげさまでテント内は快適に。 This is a my bike I ride everyday for commuting, so I changed my set up to a bikepacking set up. I ended up not putting many things on the rear rack, but I could definitely pack more stuff, if I put a saddle bag or something. I made sure to check the weather report constantly and made the decision to leave my sleeping bag and bring just a blanket. I am really sensitive to heat, so this decision helped me sleep well.

八丈島までは夜行フェリーに乗って向かうので金曜の夜からのスタート。仕事終わりのドタバタで忘れ物が無いか不安になりながらの出発です。 We needed to take a ferry to reach Hachijojima Island, so our journey starts with a late night ride to the terminal on the day before the big day. I made the departure to the first destination with a small amount of anxiety, since it was right after work and I was worried if hadn’t forgotten anything for the trip.
こんな大都会もこれから行く八丈島も同じ東京都ってんだから不思議なもんです。
It’s really weird to think that the island we’re headed is still a part of Tokyo.
自転車はそのまま預ける事が出来ました。因みに「自転車」を預かる形になるのでパッキングしてある荷物は一度ここで外して手荷物として乗船になります。(預けられる台数などは状況によって変動します。事前に確認することをお勧めします。)
This was my very first trip to an island, so I wasn’t so sure of the process I needed to go through, but I had some experienced island travelers on my team, so I was able to hand my bike to them. The attendants are there to transport your bikes, not your luggage, so you will need to take off most of the bags that are attached to your bike.
いざ乗船。(僕はこの時サントアンヌ号みたいだなーって思ってました)
2段ベッドってなんでワクワクするんですかね。
因みに八丈島まではフェリーで10時間!!長めの船旅になるので半個室のこのタイプは快適でした。仕事終わりで直行だったので僕は早めに就寝してしまいました。フェリーでの夜を楽しみにしてたムーチョの寂しそうな顔が今でも思い浮かびます。
Bunk beds are cool. I don’t know what it is but they make me excited.
It takes 10 hours for the ship to reach Hachijojima, so we rented the small rooms you seen in the picture, to get a nice rest. Since I had finished a long day of work, I was sleeping like a log, in about an hour into the ferry ride. Mucho was ready to party but everyone was so tired, he could spend a fun night. I’ll never forget his sad face.

波に揺られながら朝方遂に八丈島が見えてきました。
預けていた自転車を受け取り、それぞれ荷物をバイクに戻していきます。皆のバイクを並べて撮る青春ぽい事をしたらキャンプ場に向かいます。
We arrived at Hachijojima Island at 8:00 a.m. As the ferry approached the island. After we lined up our bikes and took some photos, as if we were a group of teenagers, it was time to start pedaling.
そのまま船に載せれるってのは朝の寝起きのテンションで自転車の組立をしなくて済むので良いですね。
There’s our bikes. It was cool that we didn’t have to re-assemble our bikes in the morning.
最近キャンプ機会の多いシャミちゃんのパッキングが上手でジェラシー。
Shami is becoming an expert at bikepacking. I’m a little bit jealous.
たまたま金子さんのお客様もいらっしゃってて完璧なディスクトラッカーに出会えました。まさか八丈島に来てまで金子さんの組むSURLYがカッコいいと思わされるなんて。勿論それを相棒にしてるオーナー様もカッコ良かった!
Oh yeah, we met one of our customers on the island! Never thought I’d see a Surly Bike built by Kaneyan in Hachijojima Island!

島の道路の作りって似ているのか桜島に似てるなーなんて思いながら走ってました。当たり前ですけど車も少なく走りやすいです。今回は出来なかったですけど一周道路もあって60キロ程で回れるそうだからそれも楽しそう。
The road on the island reminded me a lot of Sakurajima in Kagoshima. There’s only a few cars and it feels really good to ride. There’s paved road throughout the whole island, so you could ride around the entire island. I believe it’s only about 60km in total.
今回はたまたま貸し切りの贅沢を堪能出来ました。
テントを立てて本日の寝床の準備。やっとキャンプライドぽくなって来ましたね。そして僕らのライドはここからが本番。
Here’s our camp, Hachijojima Plaza. A camping spot where we can see the Hachijojima Fuji. We were the only guests, which was really nice.
We set up our tents and it finally started to look like a camping trip. Now, for some fun bike rides!

荷物をテントに置いてライドに出掛けます。目指すは温泉と林道ライド。僕も知らなかったんですけど八丈島は温泉が多いみたいでその中から2か所を巡ります。
We left our heavy loads in the tent and went on an adventure. We took the route through the forest trail and headed to the hot spring. I didn’t know this but Hachijojima has a ton of hot springs, and our plan was to visit two spots, out of the many.
勾配の激しい八丈島。10%の坂が連続で現れます。
But before that, we needed to do a lot of climbing. And I mean a lot of climbing… These 10% hills appear constantly throughout the ride.
みんなで必死に上ります。
We climbed and climbed…
上りきると絶景。これは都内じゃ見られない景色。これだけでも価値がありますが温泉を目指します。
But there’s always a prize to climbing hills. Can’t deny this view. It’s nothing we can see in the city for sure. The view itself is quite stunning, but we still wanted to get to the hot spring.
一つ目の温泉「裏見ヶ滝温泉」に到着。ここの温泉は水着で入る無料の温泉で地元の人も利用してる様子。
And here we are at the first spot. The “Uramigataki Onsen”. This hot spring is free to enter. You’ll need some kind of bathing suites to get in. It’s apparently one of the local’s favorite spots.
滝を眺めながらの温泉は坂を上ったって事もあって格別。(因みにここは、洗い場などは無く入るだけなんでご注意を)
After a long climbing, the hot spring felt AMAZING, especially with this crazy view of the waterfall.

次に向かうは林道ライド。「東山線林道」を目指します。(勿論アップダウンを繰り返し)ここは有名な林道らしく楽しみにしていました。砂利あり、ガレあり、ほぼ藪漕ぎありの盛り沢山の充実した内容で噂に聞いてた通りの充実林道。各自ドロドロになったので来た道を戻って2つ目の温泉を目指します。
Now for the trail. We headed to the “Higashiyamasen-rindo”. (Yes, we did the same amount of climbing and descending as the last run) This trail is apparently a famous spot, so my expectations were high.
A lot of gravel, a lot of mud and a lot of bushwacking. It was such a fun trail to ride. There was no disappointment at all.
We went back the way we came and headed to the second hot spring.
決して42Bのスリックタイヤのフェンダー付きバイクでは来る所では無かったですけど完走出来たので良しとします。(フェンダーに泥詰まって最高でした)
This was not a trail to ride with slick 42B tires with fenders, but I made it through so it’s all good. (I got so much mud between the tires and fenders, which was awesome)
因みに林道の終点はなんも無いです。（笑）ちょっとした広場になっていて空がただ広がるだけです。
FYI, there’s absolutely nothing at the end of the trail. lol
The only thing you can see is the blue sky and a weird opened space.
ムーチョも初めてのオフロードだったのに良く走れたね。スケープボットのお陰かな？
It was Mucho’s first time riding off-road, but I think he did a good job. Maybe because of the Scapegoat?

オンロードに戻って走る事、数十分。
2つ目の温泉「みはらしの湯」に到着。コチラは500円!(安!)で入れる温泉で所謂入浴施設です。(混浴ではありませんよ!)名前の通り見晴らし最高の露天風呂が魅力の温泉。八丈島に行く機会があれば絶対に訪れて欲しい温泉です。
10 more minutes of more ups and downs, we finally made ourselves to… “Miharashi-no-yu hot spring”.
You can enter this spot with only ¥500. This one was a traditional bath house style hot spring. It is not mixed bathing and there is actually a place where you can wash yourself with soap.
Highly recommend going, if you ever come to Hachijojima.

日が沈みかけの帰りも絶景を眺めながら来た道を戻ってキャンプ地まで帰ります。
「スーパーあさぬま」で夕飯の買い出しをして帰ります。調理器具はキャンプ場で借りる事が出来るので食材だけを購入。
普段違う部署で働いてるスタッフとこうして夜を過ごすのも新たな一面が見れて有意義な時間。外で飯を一緒に食うと何でか距離が近くなりますよね。不思議。中々ハードな日程だったので皆疲れて、いつもより早めの就寝。(ドラクエの宿屋の音楽を脳内で流してください。)
Now it was time to head back to camp.
We took in the beautiful scenery and kept pedaling toward our camp.
After making another stop to the local supermarket, it was time for supper.
I really like spending the night with co-workers who I really don’t have a chance to talk that much. Funny how eating dinner outside can make people closer.
It was a hard day of riding, so everybody went to bed early. (Queue the Dragon Quest sleeping theme)
調理器具等を完全に持参するキャンプにも憧れますが、まだまだ僕にはハードルが高いので頼れる物には頼る方向で。無理しないがテーマ。
シャミちゃんの作ってくれてチョコバナナが逮捕レベルで美味しかった

ムーチョが「The Mind」っていう謎のカードゲームを持ってきてたのでそれをお供に夜を過ごします。
Mucho brought this strange card game called “The Mind”, so we played that throughout the night.

2日目は飛行機で帰路に着くだけなので空港に向かいます。そうなんです。八丈島には空港があります。栃木にないのに。しかもフェリーで10時間が飛行機なら40分で羽田です。
空港に着いたら輪行の準備ですね。行きのフェリーはそのまま載せれましたが流石に飛行機は無理なので各々取り掛かります。(因みにキャンプグッズやらは空港から配送して羽田から帰路を楽にしよう作戦です。無理しないのが良いです。)
皆事前に予習した甲斐があってか滞りなく袋に詰めて無事に預ける事が出来ました。
Our plan for day two was just to take the plane and leave, so we headed down to the airport. Oh yeah, this island has an airport believe it or not. And it only takes 40 minutes to go back to Haneda Airport.
After arriving at the airport, it’s time to get ready for the rinko.
空港までの道でも大自然を味わう事が出来ます。八丈富士は登山も出来るらしいですよ。

後はフライトを待つだけ、、、
Everybody was well prepared for the trip, so we were able to fly out the bikes without a fuss. Now we just have to wait for the flight…
ってなったんですがまさかの2時間遅れと最後まで笑いありの今回の旅でした。(すっかりハマってしまった「The Mind」で時間を潰す僕たち)
The plane somehow was on a 2 hour delay, so we played The Mind and killed time. It was a great trip filled with laughter until the end.
ぶっちゃけ僕にとってはキャンプって身近では無いし、1年通して頻繁にやろうとも思わないけど年に一回こういった仲間と過ごす機会を与えてくれる「SWIFT CAMPOUT」ってイベントに感謝だし、それを企画してる「SWIFT INDUSTRIES」はやっぱり大好きだから、もっともっとバッグを使ってくれる人を増やしたいって思いが強くなった2日間でした。
参加出来なかった皆さんも次回のキャンプや来年への参考になる事があれば僕たちも嬉しいです。

僕は鹿児島にも飛行機輪行した事あったので今回の輪行には裏テーマを個人的に設けました。それはフェンダー付きバイクって事です。流石にリアフェンダーは外さないと輪行袋に入らなかったので外してなるべくダメージの無い様括りました。意外と平気だったのでこれからのランドナー活動の幅が広がりました。
I've already experienced an airplane rinko, so I had a little challenge for myself this time. That challenge is to rinko a bike with full fenders. There is no way to fit the bike in the rinko bag without taking off the rear fender, so I took em' off and packed it carefully. The rear fender surprisingly survived the flight, so I saw some more possiblilies in my rando life.

飛行機輪行で137バスケットをどこに収めるかちょっと心配だったんですが、結果なんの問題も無く、リアエンドのカバーをしつつ、チェーンやらディレイラーやらのごちゃごちゃをまとめ上げるという、更なる可能性をも見せつけてくれました。
I was worried and was wondering what I should do with the 137 basket when rinkoing with a plane. I ended up covering the rear end of my bike with it, along with the chain and the rear derailleur. It didn't give me any issues with the bike so it was chill. I found more posiibilities with this wat of packing.

バイクパッキングは総重量重くてもフロントバッグ、フレームバッグ、サドルバッグ、と重量分散すれば全然大丈夫。
ちなみにバイクの総重量はバッグ、手まわり品含めて23kgほどでした。
Even if the total weight of the load is heavy, you won't feel it if you divide your gears into different bags such as the front bag, frame bag and the saddle bag. The weight of my bike for this trip, with all the gears loaded was about 23kg.

ギア比はシングルギアだからこそ2以下に落としておけばよかった。林道のガレ道、藪道で低速トルクがたりず登り切れない場面も多かった他、舗装路での山登りで立ち漕ぎに頼ることが多く、スタミナ切れが軽減できたはず。
I have my bike set up as single speed, so I should have set the gear ratio to under 2.0. There were multiple times that my tires spun-out due to the high gear ratio. I had to ride out of the saddle in many paved hills, which really wore me out.

700x50cのタイヤサイズはオンロードでも林道でも終始調子が良かったです。ボヨンボヨン感(乗り心地)と転がりのバランスが良く乗ってて楽しい。
The 700x50C tires were so fun to ride both off-road and on-road. It had a great balance of cushiness and good rolling, I really had a great time riding.

手持ちバックとして*FAIRWEATHER* dry sackを持って行ったのも大成功でした！めちゃくちゃ小さく畳めるので、基本は畳んで取り出しやすいポケットに収納しておいて、昼食時お店に入る際や、温泉に入る際、飛行機で輪行の際などに、財布、携帯、タオルをさっと入れて持ち運べたのは本当に調子良かったです。（完全防水も、梅雨の時期とても嬉しい機能）

Bringing the Fairweather Dry Sack as a hand carry bag was a success! That thing can be folded into a tiny piece of nylon, so I would often have it in my pocket. I would take the bag out and pack it with my wallet, phone, keys, towels and other small things that was originally loaded on my bike when going to a restaurant, hot springs or when I had to rinko. It was such a handy sack. (They're also waterproof, which is pretty awesome)

5人で一緒にライドできたこと、ドラクエのパーティー感、これだけでもう楽しかった。
I REALLY enjoyed this five party riding. It kinda reminded me of the Dragon Quest Games.

ライド中が楽しいのはもちろんですが、休憩中に「あの坂があーだこーだ」「帰り道あーだこーだ」と話している時間も同じくらい楽しかったです。
The ride was of course amazing, but talking about how the hill climb sucked and other dumb things when we were taking a break from riding was fun as the bike ride.

Mucho brought a weird game of cards, which we all weirdly enjoyed. I guess sense of humor is another essential for camping.

荷物を削るのが大事なのに初めてのバイクキャンプは必要ないものいっぱい持っていきがち。何を削って何が必要なのかは何回か挑戦してみてわかることなので必要最低限揃えて近場でチャレンジ！
Bringing to much stuff on your first bikepacking trip is pretty common, despite the fact that the key factor to bikepacking is minimalism. But I also understand that deciding what to and what not to bring is really hard. My advise is to start going trips to closer places with bare minimum stuff and figure it out by yourself!
