Recently, I installed a lot GILLES BERTHOUD saddle made in France.
It’s been already classic for us.
I have been asked the differences, so let me show you the features of “GILLES BERTHOUD” saddles.
marie blaque
aspin
aravis
The marie blaque, aspin, aravis are classified touring models which means from long riding to daily uses.
soulour
galibier
The soulour and galibier are racing models. They are much narrower than touring saddles.
marie blaque/ aspin/ aravis
→these saddles are 157mm wide.
soulour/ galibier
→these are 146mm wide.
The saddle length is 278mm in all models except “marie blaque” which is 157mm.
*The classic saddle “B17” of BROOKS is 275mm long and 175mm wide, so GILLES BERTHOUDs are bit narrower.
The aspin and the aravis have the same shape, but the aspin has stainless steel rail and the aravis do titanium. In the same way, the soulor has stainless steel rail and the galibier has titanium.
They also offer open leather saddles.
Milder than leather saddles, it’s suit for long riding. However, the leather will loose the shape a bit faster.
GILLES BERTHOUD has started business as a bike shop. You can learn about their history here BERTHOUD CYCLES.
