We’ve said this many times, but 2026 marks the 20th anniversary for Blue Lug.

And today, I’d like to introduce you to a very special project that I never thought would come true.

Ritchey had offered an opportunity to produce custom color Garden City frames, that were first introduced to the world in 2024.

Track bikes are very special to a lot of us at Blue Lug, since the majority of the staff members. We discovered and got stoked on the track bike culture, then learned, experienced, and grew as the person we are today. Track bikes will always have a special place in our hearts, despite the fact we now carry so many genres of bikes. (Some may be surprised, but Blue Lug originally opened as a track bike store)

During the track bike boom that ocured around 20 years ago, the San Francisco track bike scene was THE culture that we looked up to. We would watch video parts over and over, read magazines and learn what’s cool and all. We were so eager to know what kind of shoes and clothing the local riders were wearing.

Fergus, the current staff of Ritchey was bike messengering in SF, and he is one of the riders who we all looked up to. We asked him if we could do a special color for the Garden City frames for our 20th anniversary, when he visited Japan in 2024. We are very honored and grateful that Ritchey gave us the permission. We are extremely happy that this project came true.

(Fergus playing with a hedgehog at the Capybara Café, which we visited at his request during our trip to Japan. He’s a playful guy who rides fast and is the kind of big brother I love. He is the kind of person who’s serious about bikes and his work.)

The model name “Garden City” was taken from a track cycling team that actually existed in San Jose, though it’s also said to be the nickname for the city of San Jose itself.

This special color scheme was inspired by the asphalt and blue bike lane markings on the streets of Tokyo, our very own “Garden City.”

Another fun fact; the colors gray and black is the symbol color for Japan’s iconic track bike racing Keirin, so it became a full circle.

The seat tube features both the LOGIC TUBING decal and the Blue Lug 20th Anniversary. Limited to 100 units worldwide, each frame comes with a serial number sticker.

With front and rear brake mounts and two bottle cage mounts, this frame has the potential to become a companion that transcends the typical track bike. It’s the kind of track frame we’d love to see ridden by everyone, whether you used to ride track bikes back in the day, are just starting out now, or are currently riding one.
