Trunk Restocked
We’ve had a lot of positive feedback for the first batch of them and I am happy to announce they are back in stock.
Other than the black, we have 3 new colors for these bags.
The brown color is made from 1000 denier Cordura nylon, the same fabric is used on our messenger bags. It looks a bit faded from t he get go, but I’m sure they’ll look even more nice after they are actually faded and worn from heavy use. I personally bought this color.

The fabric we used for the tree camo is the 500D Cordura® Nylon – Mossy Oak Break Up – 60″. This fabric features a unique finish that includes a two-layer polyurethane coating and a water-repellent treatment. They feel tougher than normal Cordura nylon.
The Mossy Oak fabric is made in USA, which we’re always hyped on. This color-way features a blue tarpaulin lining.

We also made gray in the first batch, which were made from Cordura 1000, but this type I chose the Cordura TrueLock Fabric for the first time. They feel lighter than the Cordura 1000.
The biggest difference is that they offers resistance to discoloration, UV rays, and abrasion, and is manufactured using environmentally friendly processes that reduce water and CO2 consumption.
I’ve used the bag from the prototype and my favorite part about the bag is that it’s got a lot of pockets. I’ve used it for traveling and for my daily life. Each of the front pocket, side pocket and the mesh pocket inside could all be used for different purposes. You could throw most of the small stuff in the front pocket.
The double layered construction makes it waterproof. It will protect your goods in the bag from the rain. I like that the bag stands on itself when placing it on the ground.
I recommend reading the first blog post about the bag, if you are interested.
I would like to go off track and write about roll-top and backpack type messenger bags from here.
Was Ortlieb the first to make backpack type messenger bags? I personally think Ortlieb was the first to make roll-top backpack messenger bags and is responsible for that type of messenger bags got popular around the world.
I was personally a fan of their backpacks.

From there, many major bag companies and independent bag brands back then, such as Reload and Freight Baggage started to make roll-top closure backpacks and it became one of classics to bike messengers worldwide.
The packages they had to carry changed over time, making the bags to change. I also think there were some trends among the bike messengers, but those are my personal thoughts.
The biggest adventage of roll-top back packs would be that it could fit long objects with ease. You just have to unroll and throw the long items in the bag.
Here are some cool images I found on the Internet of bike messengers using roll-top back packs.

I once heard from my old messenger friend that, the more time people work as a bike messenger, they tend to switch to a back pack rather than sticking to the one shoulder type messenger bags. The reason for that is that carrying one shoulder type bags for a long time could cause your posture to be crooked.
It makes sense if you’re carrying a heavy bag on one shoulder for a long time… I remembered realizing that a backpack-style bag, which distributes the weight evenly, is actually easier on the body.
I hope the trunk becomes one of the options for a work bag for bike messengers out there!
