My 2×2 Sam Hillborne
Hi, Shami from the Kamiuma store here.
The new Sam Hillborne arrived a few weeks ago. Did y’all already see the actual frame?
Periwinkle
Bronzey Green
Love both of the colors.
We have many Rivendell bikes for you to try out here. I want you to feel the difference in the model. This is one of the most fun part of Rivendells, or bikes in general.
Sam is not a step-through frame, so you might not have an idea of which frame size is suitable for you.
If you’re worried, let us know. If you are a fan of Riv Bikes, or just became a fan of them and considering to purchase their bikes, it might be great if you can memorize your own PBH and saddle height. This will make things much easier when choosing your frame size.
Since there has been a lot of talk about the Sam Hillborne, I’d like to take this opportunity and write about my own Sam Hillborne.
My Sam is about 5-6 years old. Classic color scheme, different lugs for the seat collar and smaller tire clearance.
Been I while since I made changes to my Sam.
I had some cool pictures of my Sam taken by the photograph team at Blue Lug. I know, the basket is pretty beat up, but I like it like this. I honestly don’t want a new one.
Here’s what it looked like before. The black Hillborne became a pretty rare one. I was 23 years old at the time I got this bike and I would like to say “great job” to my younger self for choosing this frame color.
I had on the Nitto Rivendell B357 Choco Bar with a busted cork grip, which I put back together with tapes. I also took off the fenders a while ago. I now don’t have any bikes with full fenders, which is pretty bad.
I swapped the handlebar to the Nitto Rivendell RBW-31 Billie Bars. I originally had a 110mm stem, but went up to 130mm with this handlebar.
The Billie bar has a little flare compared to the Choco bar, which feels more comfy when climbing hills.
I also re-laced the wheels.
*PAUL* word hub rear x WHITE INDUSTRIES* dos eno double free(17T/19T) the double speed free wheel.
Not sure if this was going to work as a 2×2 set up at this point, but I managed to make this set up work with working derailleurs with a shift lever.
I used these old Shimano road RD that I had in my parts box as a tensioner/derailleur which makes it possible to shift with a shifter.
I needed to make a small adjustments to the derailleur, which was pretty easy to say the least.
Sorry for bragging about my own bike, but there it was.
The Sam Hillborne is just perfect for me. I’ve ridden this bike the longest out of all the bikes I have owned in the past and I know for a fact that would be the case in the future. It was always close to me, almost too close that I forgot but I truly adore this bike.
I will continue swapping parts here and there and enjoy my journey with Sam.
P.S.
I highly recommend wrapping the upper grip area of these bars. I’m surprised by how much times I grab this spot when I’m riding.
Ok, that’s all,
Shami
