OMM report and Tech Tees
Sorry for my exhausted face in the thumbnail.
Just got back from OMM 2024!
I thought of writing my thoughts on this blog while my memory was still fresh.
This year, I went with my co-worker Colonel and my friend Sera.
Sera is a skateboarder, like Colonel. They both started cycling as a way to get to skate parks or spots, but now they are fully into bikes.
Love Sera’s philosophy on cycling which he speaks in the video above. Respect!
Sera rides a Singular Cycles Gryphon. The bag he brought to the event was the Zeitgeist. He had the fattest tire of all three of us.
Colones rode his new Black Mountain Cycles Monstercross, like he mentioned on this video.
It was his first time racing at the event and his first geared 700C bike. Rim brakes were a bit sketchy for this event which is full of hills, but he says it was chill.
His bike was full of colors. He stood out the most for sure.
This is me with my fresh Beach Club Aldente. It was my first time riding an aluminum frame since high school but damn this thing was fun to ride!
I’ll post about the bike in detail soon.
Camping out during the event was on our bucket list.
The anxious man Colonel was apparently able to sleep well so I was happy for him.
I loved it. We got to connect with a lot of people with great music from the local artist.
We got to bond with other team mates with beers and BBQ. It was definitely a great time.
The weather wasn’t too hot or too cold. Just the right temperature for camping.
It was raining in the first few hours of the race, which lead to fatigue from riding the muddy trail.
OMM is a check point race, so we headed to the check point which had the most points, but we made a big mistake.
We got in a mountain that was totally unrelated to the race and had to hike for 2 hours for nothing, with our bikes.
We should have stopped and read the map before it was too late, but we got too greedy.
After we noticed that we did all this for nothing, we descended and went to 9 more check points and headed back to HQ.
Our result was 105th place out of 149.
Day 2. The rain was gone, but our stoke wasn’t.
We went to a lot of check points
Had to deal with this type of crap
but was able to go to 18 check points.
Our final result was 61st place out of 141. At least we didn’t get disqualified. I say we did pretty good.
We were going for the last place after all.
It was cool to see a lot of friends compared to last year.
Thank you all for letting me take pics and sorry if I left anybody out!
I loved every single build I saw and was super stoked to see a lot Crust Bikes!
Lastly,
Colonel and I had the opportunity to design tech tees! We had these made by Cadence as a uniform for the event, and I think it came out great!
“kiroku yori kioku” translates to “Memories over record”
It’s a slogan that we have been saying for years at Blue Lug.
These are now available in stores and online!
