Hey y’all!

Tommy from Blue Lug Yoyogi-park here!

It’s been hard keeping up with posting blogs lately.

Since it’s been a while, I’d like to show two bikes that I built with passion.

First up!

*MASH* steel (M)

MASH STEEL (M)

The Mash Steel being the sixth generation, I have built so many of this bike since it’s release.

I of course own one and have rode it for a very long time, and I can say that the Steel frame is a masterpiece without a doubt.

The build above was for one of my clients who rode a Surly Long Haul Trucker before this bike.

Even before the LHT, the owner was riding an aluminum track bike. The LHT made him become more intrigued in steel frames and bicycles in general.

In addition, he started to miss the fast and aggressive bike he once experienced on a track bike, so he decided that he wanted the Mash Steel, a track bike made of steel.

Now, the craziest part of this bike would definitely be the full carbon gravel fork.

This is something that I wanted to do on my own Mash Steel, but the customer and I had a deep conversation and had many common ideas, so he let me do this experiment on his bike.

Thanks to that, we now have a track bike that is capable of gravel rides and even bikepacking.

This Wilde Bikes Way Finder fork has a more offset (14mm to exact) than the original Mash Steel fork, which makes toe overlaps to not happen. It increases stability and the handling, so it provides more of a relaxed ride.

Not only carbon forks are lightweight, they also absorb a lot of vibration, so riding through rough concrete becomes easier.

Having dynamo lights on his LHT, he couldn’t think about riding a bike without dyamo, so I installed the Sinewave dynamo light.

The Paul levers and the White Ind. cranks were recycled from his older bike.

The great thing about these types of components is that they perform at a high level, but lasts long as well.

He plans on saving up for NJS cranks for this build and eventually re-install the White Ind. cranks to his LHT.

Instead of fixed gear, he decided to go freewheel. The freewheel he chose was theUNVR x Kuwahara one, which I designed!

He’s got a flipflop wheel, so he can switch back to fixed gear whenever he wants.

The Mash Steel has so much potential!

Have fun!

Next up is the Mash All-Road.

*MASH* all road (S)

MASH ALL ROAD (S)

I built this bike as the first geared bike for a long time track bike rider.

As the name suggests, its’s a bike for riding a long distance in a fast pace, but with a taste of Mash SF.

Being a long time fixie rider myself, I can feel why this person chose this bike as his first geared bike.

It has “that feeling” you get from riding a track bike, which I also consider as a unique feature for those who had been riding a road bike for a long time. It’s definitely the bike’s biggest charm in my opinion.

It’s not a drop bar-specific frame, so we can do build like this.

White Ind. hubs are known for their smoothness, but they are also easy to maintain and they have many repair parts available, so I recommend their hubs for bikes that you want to ride hard. On top of that, the sound that the hubs produce is very nice. It makes you feel good when you are riding.

Mavic Open Pro UST rims, one of Mavic’s iconic rims. The wavy rims are quite unique.

We went with the 24H rims to take off some weight.

GRX components with Wolf Tooth chainring.

The gearing is on the harder side for more top speed.

It’s not a frame for racing and that is exactly why this frame is very interesting and the reason why you are able to ride this bike for a long time.

If you’re looking for a road bike to ride as a tool for your daily life and for your enjoyment, this might be the one.

I’m looking forward to see how this build will change throughout it’s life!

Speaking of Mash…

The AC-4 seems to be close to it’s drop.

It looks like the artwork was done by AL Nelson like always.

I can’t wait til they arrive!!
