Hello! This is Takuma from the Blue Lug Global Team.

Happy New Year!

The more I get older, the more time feels so fast. I plan on trying many new things and live each day the fullest this year.

My biggest goal is to visit the west coast of United States with my bike! I’d love to visit SF and LA in a week, a quick and short one.

If you’re reading this and live in either of the two cities, please hit me up at takuma@bluelug.com and tell me some cool spots to check out.

If you’re planning to do something new with bicycles, or looking into getting a bike for your new life, I have great news. I’d like to introduce you to the “Blue Lug Custom Build Kit”!

So many customers asked about purchasing a custom build bike from Blue Lug, compared to a couple years ago. We truly appreciate your interest!

We had avoided shipping complete bikes overseas, due to concerns of having issues during the transportation. However, after receiving many requests and discussing with the team, we came to a conclusion that we still cannot ship a complete bike, but we can ship “Custom Bike Build Kits” to overseas customers.

This custom bike build kit delivers a complete set of parts ready to assemble your one-of-a-kind custom bike.

We start by discussing your preferences and intended use, then finalize every detail from the frame to custom wheels and every component via email correspondence.

We can include all the parts you see online and maybe some parts that are not listed online.

If you find it difficult to imagine the full build of your bike, we are able to send a mock-up like the two images above.

This is your chance to get your hands on YOUR OWN Blue Lug style custom build!

If you have a bike shop that you visit frequently, or if you can build a bike by yourself, this build kit would be a significant option to consider when looking for a new bike.

By the way, most custom wheel orders and custom build kits are handled by me (Takuma) who is writing this blog post.

I think it makes it difficult to order a bike from a complete stranger, so please allow me to introduce myself.

So many bikes, so little time…

The photo of me riding is when I raced at the CMWC(Cycle Messenger World Championship) in 2023 at Yokohama Japan.

I don’t have any experience in bike messengering, but moving from my hometown in Gunma to attend university in Tokyo led me to dive into Tokyo’s messenger and track bike communities (these two cultures are closely intertwined in Japan), and I became completely absorbed in cycling.

I got too much into bikes that I had to attend one extra year of college. During the time, I went to Blue Lug with my resume and started working part time, then eventually became a full time worker.

I was assigned to the global team after working as a mechanic at the Hatagaya store and Yoyogi-park store. There’s more things I wanna write, but everybody always roasts me for my posts being too long so I’ll stop now.

Lastly, here are some FAQs regarding the custom build kit.

Q. I know absolutely nothing about bikes and haven’t even decided on a frame yet, but I want a Blue Lug custom bike! Is that possible?

A. Absolutely! Just let us know your general purpose, budget, and preferences (like color or the bike’s overall vibe), and we’ll suggest a frame and parts tailored to your needs.

Q. How much should I budget to build one custom bike?

A. Single Speed: $1,900- Geared: $2,200-

Q. I want to use some parts I already own, so I’d like to order just the frame and necessary parts. Is that okay?

A. Absolutely. We’ll prepare only the parts you need.

Q. I want a product not listed on the online store or one that’s sold out. Can you get it for me?

A. It depends on the item, but it might be possible! Please feel free to ask.

Q. Do you ship to any country/region? How long does shipping take?

A. Yes, we ship anywhere FedEx delivers. Shipping time depends on your order, but it takes about 3 days minimum after your order is finalized. If your order includes custom wheels, please allow roughly 2 to 3 weeks.

Q. Can you ship parts already installed?

A. If you purchase the headset and BB along with the frame and request the facing/BB tapping option, we will install them at no additional charge. Other parts are generally shipped uninstalled, but we may be able to accommodate requests depending on the situation. Please inquire.

Q. How are items shipped?

A. This varies by case, but typically we ship in two packages: one box containing the frame/fork, and another box containing the front/rear wheel set and other parts.

If no wheel set is included, we pack the parts into the frame box and ship everything in one package.

Q. How much are shipping/customs fees?

A. Shipping costs vary by case. Below are approximate shipping costs based on past cases, but these are only guidelines—actual costs may be lower or higher. For regions not listed, we have no past examples, so please inquire individually. Registering as a member on our online store and saving your address allows us to calculate a shipping estimate once you’ve roughly decided on the contents. Please note that customs duties and similar fees vary significantly by case and region, so we cannot provide individual answers.

North America: $500~

Asia: $200~

Oceania: $400~

Europe: $500~

Q. I need to split my order due to my card’s spending limit. Is that okay?

A. It depends on the case, but it’s generally possible. Please consult with us.

Okay, I think I covered most.
