How I ride my Clem
Will from Rivendell asked me, how I ride my bike on my days off, so I thought of writing this blog.
My go to bike of late is my Clem Smith Jr.
Here’s a photo of myself, my bike and my hero.
A lot of you may think the Clem as a bike that can fit blocky tires and ride through the trail and that is true, but I was just thinking about the concept of the Clem when they first came out. I believe it was described as a hyper comfortable bike that the young and old can ride. It still is, it’s just that I see more people on the trails with the bike recently.
I don’t take my Clem in the mountains. My Clem lean towards the hyper comfort side. It’s the complete opposite of Ultralite. It’s a ultraheavy set up.
I can ride in the rain since I have full fenders. I can ride the bike anytime since I have front & rear dynamo set up.
A basket is a must for me. Most of the time, there is a product sample, 1L water bottle and a laptop in my basket when commuting.
Go watch this video where we ramble about baskets and bike bags.
Putting more parts to the bike means more weight, which I like.
A bike that is safe and practical = cool. This is what I learned from Rivendell.
Well then, I’m off to ride along Tama river with this UH bike.
Quick stop at Patagonia to pick up a jacket I ordered before Tama river.
This is my friend Ume, he’s also a fellow Riv rider. he surfs, hikes and rides. Busy lad.
I’m after a lot of things in Patagonia.
The new Window Sweeo Jacket caught my eyes.
DWR cotton with side pockets.
I think this fits nicer than the Hoodini Jacket, which I always thought was the best of Jackets.
Please Patagonia, please don’t discontinue this one.
Okay, off to ride Tama river gravel.
I always ride towards Haneda Airport. I’ll ride about 30 mins and take a break. I know, that’s not a lot, but the key is to not push yourself.
I would listen to the radio while riding and maybe go peak a vintage clothing shop on my way home.
It’s not like, “I’m going on a ride” it’s more like I’m just using the bike to get around town and it’s fun for me.
I highly recommend just cruising around your neighborhood, every once in a while.
Hey Will! This is how I spend my days off!
