Special Painted Crust Frames by Cook Paint Works.
Cook Paint Works is our paint studio that was established 13 years ago.
↑Aze and Chino, the OG painters. 10 years ago. Aze currently works as the manager for Blue Lug Kagoshima.
Konno, is the current painter who mainly does most of the works for Blue Lug’s custom orders, while Chino, one of the founders of the studio chimes in here and there for custom paint jobs remotely from his own studio, while also working on his own project, Drops Design Works
Chino taught Konno about painting bicycle frames from scratch in the early days and they decided to do a fun little project after many years of working together.
Introducing six Crust frames custom painted by Cook Paint Works.
Bombora (S)
Red base color with an “aging pattern”.
The frame is of course new, but the finish makes it look like it’s been through some heavy riding.
Evasion (S)
This one was painted with a technique used in Gunplas (build-it-yourself Gundam figures), where it looks like the bike came straight out from a manga or an anime.
Scapegoat (M)
The Mach Silver is a very popular finish Cook offers. This one is the Mach silver with a little twist.
If you look closely, it has a pattern that resembles a silver street light pole.
Lightning bolt single speed (M)
Candy paint is one of the most common finish in custom paint jobs. It is painted over a metallic silver paint, making the color to look deeply detailed.
The Cook Paint Works logo on this one was inspired by the day when the Cook Paint Works studio was struct by lighting last summer…
Wombat (S)
It may look like a solid yellow finish, but if you look closely, it has crackles on the lower side of the frame.
Crackle finish are done with a specific kind of paint. Chino and Konno wasn’t a huge fan of how the crackle turns out with that type of paint and how you can’t have the crackles on specific areas since you would need to use the same paint on the whole frame. They some how found a way to crack the paint on certain areas.
This frame was found deep under the sea…just kidding. The head tube lug is painted with a chrome plated paint and the logos are painted with a 24K gold leaf paint, and of course added the rusty finish to add the “pulled out from under the sea vibes”.
*They are not actual rust
Those were six custom painted Crust from Cook Paint Works. They said they had som much fun with trying new techniques in this project. I hope y’all dig them.
You can go see the frames in all three Blue Lug shops in Tokyo.
And they are also up on the website if you like their work.
