Bike Checks from Blue Lug Kamiuma
Hello everyone, my name is Isshu from Blue Lug Kamiuma. Before I joined Blue Lug, I’ve ridden a bike around Japan, and Isshu (一周) means going around in Japanese. This is where my nickname came from.
Today, I would like to show you 3 bikes we built in our shop recently. Let’s do some bike checks!
*SOMA Fabrications* San Marcos
The first bike is SOMA fabrications, San Marcos. SOMA fabrications from San Francisco, California, and San Marcos is designed by Rivendell Bicycle Works, which is also from the bay area. The wheel sizes are 650B but those brakes are caliper like a road bike. It is great that you can put fenders and racks on this bike. For this bike, it is cool either like classic sports bike setups or touring bike setups.
This setup is the latter. On this everyday bike, you can load a lot of stuff. The rack is the Nitto M-1B with a Wald basket. The Realm basket bag fits perfectly the Wald basket. We now have a camouflage color in stock.
The light is the Schmidt dynamo. I recommend those if charging lights is a real pain in the ass. Those hub dynamo works very well.
The headset is the Chris King 1 inch thread, which lasts super long. Since the 1 inch headtube is less stiffer than 1 1/8 inch, the durability of headset is very important. In particular, the bike has a front rack. Those spacers are a great match with the head budge.
We chose the double chainrings and 9-speed cassette. This set-up easily covers for his commuting area.
The front basket is enough for commuting but if you go shopping, you may need a rear rack.
It is kind of hard to tell but the rear light is also dynamo.
This bike looks cool and very functional! We hope he rides this bike long time and become like a pal.
*All-City* Space Horse Disc
The next bike is All-City Space Horse Disc. This one is, on the other hand, a modern style bike such as disc brakes and 700c.
The handlebar is the Nitto RM-3 Mountain drop.
You can grab the top of the handlebar for relax upright position and still can grab a drop part for aero position.
The headset is Chris King. The Turquoise color is an accent for this bike.
The front rack is Tubus Tara.
The hubs are Philwood CX. Amazing hubs.
The BB is also Philwood. This one is very durable as well.
I think this is smart that installing good parts for important things such as hubs and BB or maybe racks if you bike camping or something. Such a great bike!
*Crust bikes* Lightning Bolt
The last bike is from Crust bikes, Lightning Bolt. The owner lives from the outside of Tokyo and he loves snowboarding and outdoor activity. Then I understand that he chose this bike and this setup.
We installed American parts such as Paul, White Industries and Chris King, and the drivetrain is SRAM.
Damn! When I was working on this bike, I was like I want a bike like this. This is kind of my dream bike.
That’s all today. All 3 bikes are very unique and really cool.
Time fries. This year is almost over. You may be busy with wrapping this year but why don’t you come to our shop to change some parts and refresh. We love to help you out!
SAYONARA!
