One of my secret pleasures of commuting by bike on rainy days?
Getting to wear the FAIRWEATHER Packable Rain Poncho.
Of course, it’s an excellent piece of gear for keeping the rain off, but for me, it also brings out the kid in me.
The very first time I put it on after buying one, this scene immediately started playing in my head.
Not only does it make me want to say, “Kept you waiting, huh?” in a deep voice, but it also happens to work incredibly well as rain gear.

Especially when it’s actually raining, it’s pretty hard to take photos of myself wearing it or show just how well it sheds water, so I’ll skip that part of the review.
Rain usually puts me in a “ugh, I really don’t want to ride my bike” kind of mood, but once you’ve got the right gear, it’s honestly not so bad.
The commute looks a little different from usual. You hear raindrops hitting the hood of your poncho, and the sound of your tires rolling over wet asphalt. There’s something pretty nice about it.
Fenders + nylon shorts + sandals + rain poncho.
For summer, this setup is hard to beat.
In winter, on the other hand, I usually commute in a full rain jacket-and-pants setup.
This winter, I think I’ll finally give the FAIRWEATHER Ultralight Rain Jacket/Pants a try.
