Hello!

Tommy here from BLUE LUG Yoyogi Park.

It’s been a loooong time, but we’ve finally got a fresh batch of Mash SF goodies straight from San Francisco, USA!!!

I personally am loving their new hats. It always makes me stoked to see SF locals, such as Benny Gold, Jeffrey Sincich commenting on Mash’s IG posts.

Available in three designs. The canvas fabric is a little unusual, and we can’t wait to see how it fades, sun-bleaches, and develops character with age!

New Hats HERE!!

The neck gaiters and masks come in handy on rides for keeping bugs out and helping protect against pollen. And once the weather gets colder, they’re great for keeping you warm, too!

Long sleeve tech tees are great for protecting your skin from the harsh summer sun and it keeps you nice and dry. You can basically wear them anytime of the year for riding, running and other outdoor activities.

We got a ton of tech tees with unique designs for this delivery. I highly recommend getting the kind of designs you haven’t tried in your life yet. You only live once, right?

We also got new bottles

I’m personally stoked on the mix of cute designs and the more low-key, old-school references MASH has been playing with lately. (The MASH Family Thrift stuff is especially sick.)

And of course, there’s the familiar MUNI colorway, inspired by San Francisco’s public transit system. Gotta love that hometown pride. Seriously though, it’s almost unfair how cool a public transit logo can look.

And of course, cycling caps!

There are a few designs that are only available for some sensitive reasons.lol

It’s not a new release this season, but this one’s been a recent favorite of mine! I wear it all the time as part of my everyday outfit, even when I’m not riding. Of course, it works great as functional riding gear, but I think it’s just as good as a fashion piece, too!

Most items are now live online!

Since around the second half of last year, Mash has been posting on Instagram here and there again, and honestly, it makes me so happy.

Seeing them active like that—and knowing they’ve hit their 20th anniversary—has me wondering if a new photo book or video might be coming sometime soon. Just thinking about it gets me way too excited.

So lately I’ve actually been trying not to think about MASH too much. But of course, that’s exactly when a fresh batch of their stuff shows up at the shop… and next thing I know, I’m up late at night flipping through all the old photo books again, haha.

Man… Mash really, truly is something special to me.

Anyway, from here on out, you’re coming along for the ride with my personal obsession. 🫵

When it comes to MASH riders with that trick-heavy style, Matt Reyes and Jake Lanich are just on another level.

Matt in particular was one of the top riders leading the trick scene back in the day, so seeing him still absolutely killing it in Mash videos today is seriously inspiring. It makes me think, if he can still move like that, I’ve still got plenty left in me too! (Our skill levels aren’t even remotely comparable though, haha.)

He’s probably around the same generation as some of the OG riders I really love and respect—Tom from La Marche, and here in Japan, guys like NASTY and MARCO.

Jake is probably around the same age as me, and I think I first became aware of him about 12 years ago.

Back then, 26-inch FGFS was pretty much the standard for fixed-gear tricks, but Jake was out there in Sacramento doing some seriously high-level stuff on a skinny-tire setup, basically a track frame that could only take around 28c max.

I remember seeing him ride and thinking, “Damn, this dude is insane.”

I’m still stubbornly riding skinny tires with toe clips myself, so even though we’ve never met, I feel like we’d probably get along pretty damn well if we ever did.

Back then, he was riding a Cinelli MASH Histogram with ENVE parts. The bike looked fast as hell, and the fact that he was that good on it honestly made me pretty jealous。

I also remember watching him put all those ENVE carbon parts through some seriously ridiculous abuse and thinking, “Damn, that stuff really doesn’t break, huh? Carbon can actually be tough!”

Especially since I’ve personally managed to destroy a few carbon parts from other brands. lol

This one was uploaded fairly recently, featuring some full-send downhill action through the streets of California. It’s also seriously exciting to see a new generation of riders coming through—guys who you can tell at a glance are young young. But through it all, that San Francisco style hasn’t changed a bit.

Then or now, it’s still the best!

And it looks like the person behind the camera for this video is Jake Ricker. A former bike messenger turned photographer, Jake is another incredibly versatile figure who has been an essential part of the scene.

When you think of the directors and filmmakers behind MASH, the two names that immediately come to mind are Mike Martin and Gabe Morford. The two produced and filmed the original 2007 MASH project together.

This one’s a little more obscure since it wasn’t included in the main feature of the 2007 film, but here’s the funny thing: Mike and Gabe are both seriously good riders themselves, haha.

Anyway, here’s Mike’s part.

And here’s Gabe’s part.

Gabe is also the longtime photographer for San Francisco skate company DLXF, and has shot extensively for THRASHER Magazine as well. He’s a key figure in the West Coast street scene and someone you really can’t talk about it without mentioning.

(I can’t stop writing about this stuff)

Speaking of MASH and its original crew, one of the things that’s gotten me the most hyped lately is James Newman launching his own track bike brand, “JAMMER BIKES”!

JAMMER BIKES on The Radavist

And the fact that Terry filmed the video makes it even more exciting!

That handmade track frame built by HUNTER CYCLES is just too damn beautiful…

James isn’t the kind of rider with a super flashy or aggressive style, but he makes seriously difficult riding look effortless. And more than anything, every bike he rides just looks so good. He’s been one of my favorite riders for a long time.

I actually started getting interested in the American handmade bike scene after discovering the HUNTER CYCLES track bike he’s been riding since 2009.

And apparently, that very bike became the foundation for JAMMER BIKES!

Man, I love this stuff…

I’m supposed to be getting back to building customers’ bikes, but I can’t stop writing this blog!

I’d better call it here for today.

I could go on way too passionately about this stuff, so if any of you are interested, come by the shop and let’s talk, haha.

Anyway, that wraps up my introduction to some new goodies from one of my all-time favorites, MASH!

See you next time!
