Restock & Online Special Stroll Sacoche

It’s only been a few weeks since I introduced these, but I got another cool project I got to work on.

Here are two new staff signature The Day Packs.

Thankfully, these special bags are always a hit, so we would often talk about what kind of stuff we should do next. I personally love to think about products that would look cool, or just think of stuff that I want, so if there’s an opportunity to work on something I would raise my hand and go “Me me me me!” like a kid who solved a math question.

However, someone else raised their hand at the same time as I did this time.

That person would be…

Yue from the Global Team. (check out her super pointy hood)

A few years ago, I was the only member of the “Global Team”. I didn’t have any experience, nor any knowledge in E-commerce, so all I could do was ship out the orders that we received. There was a time where I was struggling because I could hardly do any data analysis or other essential tasks for E-commerce.

Fortunately, Yue joined the team and saved us with her knowledge and experience in E-commerce.

She handles the difficult tasks that my dumb ass can’t understand. I could not explain how much she does for the team.

Anyhow, she had an idea of what she wanted to make, so we decided to make two web special day packs.

Yue is a big fan of movies. She knows almost every movie that we mention in our conversations in the team. She has a very unique vision of designing products inspired by all the movies she’s seen, so I think many film fans may like her bag.

I’ll let Yue take it away from here to explain about the bag she designed.

I had the opportunity to design The Day Pack last year with Aro.

I use mine a lot and it became one of my favorite bags. I would use it for traveling and my daily life.

And this time, I had the opportunity to create the second custom-made daypacks.

For the bag Aro and I designed, we used the Rip Stop fabric, since we were in the mood for high-tech-ish fabric, but for this time, I wanted to go in the opposite direction.

My ideal look is that worn-out, relaxed vibe you see in vintage stores—like a well-worn Jansport bag.

I started with the colors, drawing inspiration from the color palette of one of my favorite movies.

“Her” by Spike Jonze

“The Shining” by Stanley Kubrick

“Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl” by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon

“Chungking Express” by Wong Kar-wai

The common thread is a pale green that’s neither quite green nor quite olive green.
It’s the color of the Theodore chair in “Her” and the color of the bathtub in “The Shining” (personally, I think that’s the scariest scene in movie).

Max suggested the perfect fabric and color with the ideal texture, so we went with a thin nylon that’s softer than Cordura.
It’s cute how it naturally sags a bit when you put things inside.I love the nostalgic feel of it, reminiscent of nylon from a few decades ago.

Also, the blue zipper pull in a similar tone has a slightly plush texture. I also tweaked the stitching color just a bit.

And so, my second signature The Day Pack color-way is complete, and I’m pretty thrilled with the result.
It’s a bag you can use casually every day, and it gets better with every use.
I think it’s turned out to be the kind of bag that wouldn’t look out of place tucked away in a vintage shop.
I’d be thrilled if you used it a lot and wore it out until it’s truly well-loved.

Alright, thanks Yue! What a cool way to choose the colors. I’m really jealous of that perspective, to be honest. You got me there.

Okay! My turn!

I use the tree camo day pack that I got to design 2 years ago a lot. I really love this one, but camo stuff sometimes give me an outfit anxiety. For instance, when I wear a check shirt and carry this camo bag, I end up looking like a textile sample and would have to pick another outfit.

I was starting to want a “normal” day pack.

This would all be solved if I just get the regular ones that we offer, but I wanted something different. Luckily, the sewing team offered us a chance to do staff designed Day Packs in a perfect timing.

Okay, let’s think about what I image for a “normal day pack”

(PSP264LFFF💚)

Plain Cordura nylon with a suede bottom. A simple backpack that’s often worn out and thrown in the corner of a skate park. That’s the kind of backpack I want right now. The more I think about it, the more I feel like our regular Day Packs would be just fine…

However, I’m currently obsessed with mesh pocket stuff. I’ve been collecting a lot of images of vintage clothes and bags with mesh pockets.

This is one of the bags I found from my mesh pocket image pile.

I grew up in Indiana in the early 2000s and attended the local elementary school. My close friends in my neighborhood were all a few years older than me, so they got out of elementary school before I did.

I remember most of the kids my age having these types of bright backpacks with cartoon characters, but all my older friends would have simple backpacks with mesh pockets like that navy blue one before this image, which I thought that was the coolest grown up shit ever.

I think I saved that pic of the navy blue backpack out of nostalgia, but this nostalgia was what I needed for my new backpack.

Here it is.

The most noticeable feature of The Day Pack has to be the huge outer pocket.

The Day Pack’s signature features, the huge outer pocket and the drink holders on both sides, are made entirely of mesh fabric for this one. The sections covering the zippers on the main body and the outer pocket are crafted from Cordura nylon. And the bottom is of course suede.

Oh yeah, this totally has that early 2000s annoying teenager vibes.

Being able to see what’s inside easily because of the size of the pocket is one thing, but you could also have fun like Samba, since the mesh fabric let’s you see through the pocket.

This is what the inside of the outer pocket looks like. It’s super useful.

I put two strips of reflective tapes on both drink holders on the sides. High visibility is very important for us.

I like that it looks like construction work wear.

The reflectors are clearly visible when you’re riding.

Yue’s The Day Packs and My The Day Packs are now live online.

Even though the styles are completely different, we both had the same image of a “vintage vibe” in mind, so I think it turned out to be a cool project.

Last but not least, the rip nylon day packs that Aro and Yue designed last year are also restocked! Now is your chance to grab them if you missed out last time.

These bags will be an ONLINE EXCLUSIVE. Please be aware that the physical stores will not have them.

Hope y’all dig them!
