Almost 99% of  the bikes we build are built with hand built wheels, and most complete bikes in the market are generally built with complete wheels that were laced by machines in factories.

These factory made wheels are made uniformly to fit mass produced bikes. Hand built wheels on the other hand are made from scratch, meaning you get to choose the rim, hub, spokes, and nipples. This is great for a bike shop like us who build a bike from scratch, using frames that have unique specs compared to average mass produced bikes and bikes that use frames that have traditional component compatibility.

These custom hand built wheels are often laced with parts with common specs, so repairing is easy, which is one of the pros for this type of wheels. This means that the wheels you ordered from us can be easily serviced by your local bike shop.

All hand built wheels that we sell are built by the Blue Lug mechanics.

We often build wheels from the needs of each customers, but we also sell ready made wheels online (yes, these are all hand built by BL mechs)

We have wheels with popular rim x hub combinations, classic combination, some weird and unique combinations and high end combinations of wheels. A total 68 types of wheels!

I believe that we have the most variation of wheels in the world.

We can ship the wheels in stock within 3 days. If you find your ideal wheel on the website, it might be a match made in heaven. If you don’t know which wheel to get for your bike, contact international@bluelug.com and we’ll support you to find the one.

Additionally, if you still somehow can’t find or be satisfied with the ready made wheels…

We can do custom orders!

Please click HERE if you’d like to know the details and shoot us an email at wheel@bluelug.com if you’re not sure what parts to get for your wheel build. We can even pick the parts for you if you could tell us what kind of wheels and what you need it for.

We haven’t really made an announcement regarding custom order wheels, but some of you guys had already ordered custom wheels, and I’d like to show some of the wheels we built for the international customers.

This wheel was built for the Crust Bikes Evasion.

Velocity Blunt 35 rims with Velo Orange Disc Hubs. The rims have a good balance of durability and weight and the Velo Orange Hubs are reasonable, yet high quality. Philwood Double Butted Spoke give the wheels rigidity while keeping them moderately light weight.

These wheels were for a customer in Australia, the home of Crust Bikes. They enjoy riding in the beautiful nature of Australia with their partner and their doggo.

The owner is a big fan of touring and would travel around.

They of course visited Japan and I met them at one of the shops about a year ago, when they were in the end of their Japan tour.

I got a message from them a few months ago, saying that they’ll be back in Japan for the first time in a year. It was cool to hangout with them again.

They brought their new Bridge Club that they got from us. I was so happy to see the bike being ridden a lot! They told me that they are keen on the Evasion back when we hung out.

Fast forward, I got another message they already got the Evasion frame and is using most parts from the Bridge Club, but needed new wheels.

Then, they decided to order a custom wheel from us, which I was very grateful for. I was happy to know that one of the reason why they decided to let us build the wheel was because of our wide variety parts selection.

Most complete disc brake wheels in the market are all black wheels. If you’re looking for non-all black wheels, we got you covered.

The new wheels were installed on the new Evasion. I absolutely love it! I can’t wait to ride with them in Japan again.

Special thanks to Jack for the order and for kindly agreeing to be featured on this blog!
