A month has passed since the release of my frame Dodo.

The concept of the frame is an “Everyday Bike Frame”. We tend to build Everyday Bikes with all types of different frames, but I wanted to design a frame that was specifically for an Everyday Bike build. That said, I also wanted to throw in a rando essence in the mix, since it is my favorite type of bike.

Fortunately, many of the staffs have been building the bike for themselves and had some people choose the frame as their new bike, even from overseas. I can’t wait to see everyone’s build.

Did I built one for myself? Of course I did! It’s a bike mechanic’s dream to ride a bike that you designed yourself.

This is my Dodo. I’m 163cm tall and ride a S size frame.

To be frank, Rando style frames are released from all sorts of bike brands, but one of the biggest feature of the Dodo is the low bottom bracket height. This stabilizes the bike and make it safe. I’m hoping this feature will give better experience for people who has less experience in riding “sport bikes”.  I feel like not many people ride their sports bikes, actually for sports.

Most people would use the bike to get around on weekends and this frame was designed to do that. That’s why it’s an Everyday Bike Frame.

The geometry was designed by the Japanese frame builder, Rew10 Works. Their work is not shiny and fancy, but always has a unique geometry. They nailed it with making the bike look nice for small frames sizes.

The rear cable guide was the hardest thing to design. I swear it took like two years just for this. I learned how hared it is to design a bicycle frame the hard way. The first sample was a disaster, but I can tell you more about that at the shop.

I love cool details of rear canti brakes, so I wanted this detail no matter what. That silver ball thing is a *GRAND BOIS* brake hanger , if you’re wondering.

The rear end with a flange? I don’t know what to call it, but I like it.

Sweep bar for an Everyday Bike is a must! Bar end shifters are fun to use too.

Mat’s Sam and Boss’s LHT are huge inspirations when it comes to Everyday Bikes.

The Pelican by Box Dog Cycles is my forever dream bike. I might swap to a drop bar next weekend. The Dodo is capable of doing both flat bars and drop bars.

A lot of our builds have baskets or front racks, so I made sure the bike is sturdy and stable when having those two.

I colored the lug bubbles of the *NITTO* S84 rivendell lugged seatpost. It’s nothing special, but a fun little detail.

I used PDW Full Metal Fenders for the first time. Easy to install, works like a charm.

There are tons of bikes in the world, but this is a bike that I designed with features that I wished I had on a bike after working 10 years as a bike mechanic in Blue Lug. It’s not a flashy bike, but I really like how it turned out. I’m very excited to ride it a lot. I hope some people can get a kick out of it.

I don’t like being recorded while I work, but Sabu made this build video. I’m swapping all the parts from the prototype Dodo.
Gosh! It was a long way to get these in production!
