Custom Painted Evasions & Cook Tees
Hi, Konno from Cook Paint Works here.
I’ve been out riding with my 3 year old son on my days off, but my gosh it’s hot! Summer is right around the corner.
Speaking of hot, we did recently did a hot project at Cook Paint Works.
We custom painted 6 Crust Evasion frames!!
Chino, my master in painting and I painted these frames in a paint job that we wouldn’t usually do for custom orders.
The reason why we picked the Evasion frame is that we wanted to do something that we can express ourselves and we thought Crust is just the right frames to work on, since they also are free minded and often expresses themselves quite epicly. The Evasion can be built in various ways, so we put these paintjobs on them.
First up is the flame pattern paint. We often see these types of paint jobs on fuel tanks of motorcycles.
The yellow solid color is painted on the white primer, so the solid yellow has depth to the color. We did a fade with a red-ish orange and out lined it with blue, which is the complete opposite color of red. The Crust logo is painted with silver leaves to give it a luxurious touch.

Mach Silver is a color that we do for a lot of Surly bikes here at Cook Paint Works. It is a metallic paintjob, but with a bit of a chrome essence. We painted this Evasion in Mach Silver, but made it look aged. We wanted to look like it’s been through some tough times.
Crust is one of those brands that is always thinking outside the box. This one was inspired by their attitude towards cycling.
The base color is a lime green paint that is made in USA, which we rarely use. It’s got a fine grain sparkles and glossiness that we can’t do with metallic or candy. We wrap painted over the lime green and made this unique pattern with a blue fade.
Grey camo. Not just any camo, it’s metcallic.
We live in a concrete jungle, filled with grey-ish colors, so we painted this one to blend in with big cities. The logo is painted in neon orange to make the brand name standout.
From a distance, this one looks like a brown-ish camo. For a normal camo, we just have to paint with a few different solid colors, but we painted a little pattern for each of the camo.
A pattern that looks like marble, and a pattern that looks like wood. This makes the process twice slower. We worked very hard on this one.
Candy paint, is often seen in custom paintjobs. Candy paint is a transparent paint that creates a rich, deep, and lustrous color effect. We often use metallic paint for the primer, paint it over with red candy paint to give depth in the color.
We used this transparent aspect of the candy paint. We’ve used a solid white as the base color and splattered candy paint in a few different colors, making the paint look like a water color painting.
Hope someone out there can get a kick out of this project.
*NOTE*
These Evasions are older model, meaning the rear spacing is 148mm×12mm and the front spacing 100mmx12mm.
We always put the “COOK” logo on custom painted frames and would use masking tape and cutting sheets to paint different colors.
Just like this. We do this to make sure that the paint does not splash onto the other colors when spraying them.
Well, we made that process into a shirt.
Cook logo printed with masking tape details on the back. The printing is thicker where the tape layers to make it look like actual masking tapes.
Our name on the front in both English and Japanese.
We also brought these classic tees back!
I still use this little footstool. It’s seen better days, but I like it.
The frames are displayed in each of our store locations, so come check em out!
