Charlie H. Gallop
This blog post will mostly be about my personal life, so I apologize in advance if it’s boring.
My daughter had entered pre-school and by the looks how she comes home with dirty clothes almost everyday, I think she’s enjoying her time at pre-school. She now brings her own shoes to me and tells me to take her outside.
I am very happy that she is enjoying going to pre-school.
This also means that my wife will be going back to work. My wife went through morning sickness to maternity leave, giving birth and childcare leave. She’s going to work for the first time in a year and 3 months. I can’t imagine myself going back to work for the first time in such a long time.
During the year and 3 months, she even went through days where she’s taking care of our daughter the whole time. I am very appreciative for my wife.
My wife liked riding bikes before she had our baby, but she obviously couldn’t ride during pregnancy. Now that she can ride, I gifted her a new bike as an appreciation for taking care of our daughter and going back to work.
*RIVENDELL* Charlie H. Gallop (49)
She would often say that she wanted to ride a Rivendell. The bike she had been riding a Velo Orange Piolet and her request for her next bike was a nimble bike.
A nimble Rivendell…I couldn’t find the best answer, but thankfully the Charlie H. Gallop made its debut.。
I thought this was a perfect bike for her, since Will at Rivendell described it as “Rachel Bike”.
Although it was a gift, it was important to keep the budget lower, since I wanted her to ride it with any concerns, so I built it up with parts from my parts bin.
I used the *NITTO* rivendell b910 choco-moose bar that I saved. These bars have a lower rise, providing a perfect amount of upright position. The semi-drop-ish bars were perfect for the Charlie.
*PAUL* canti lever that I bought before the price went up and a pair of white *PHILWOOD* 11-speed road hub that I had. I hesitated to use these for my wife’s bike, but I didn’t have plans on using them, so I went ahead and built the wheels for the build.
The Charlie has a 130 rear spacing, so I could install it without any conversions.
Beautiful bubble lugs. The top tube lug is lovely, but I also love the asymmetric head tube lug.
My wife chose the color combinations of the cockpit. Choosing parts together is a priceless time.
She chose the *RITCHEY* wcs true grip. I wonder if this choice was because my love for Ritchey. Not sure, but I was super happy for her choice.
*NITTO* M-1B front rack x *BL SELECT* everyday basket set up, so she can place her favorite bag.
I lost the stays for theM-1B rack, so I used black stays that were just laying around in the workshop.
The Everyday Baskets are not too deep and not too shallow. Plus, the wires of the four corners are reinforced, so they are much durable than the Wald baskets.
New *BROOKS* c17 special recycled nylon saddle. Leather saddles are sometimes too much to take care of, so we chose this one. I love how the white saddle looks.
We are about the same height, so I sometimes ride the bike too. I am a big fan of its zippiness and how stable the steering feels. It’s great for beginners and for experienced riders. I love zippy bikes, so I’m really loving how this bike feels.
My wife and I went on a short ride while our daughter was at pre-school the other day, and she seems to like the bike a lot. I was happy I chose this bike for her.
Bikes are like a universal language for us. It is a very important thing for our relationship, so I’m excited to ride with her in the future.
