Blue Lug Company Ride
Wentz and I organize a company ride event once each month. Every time, we choose members, routes and everything. This time we picked up 5 members that built up a new bike recently.
Wentz built up the new Curst Bikes lightning bolt lately. He is only 22 years old, yet he installed cool vintage parts on this bike.
Sento is a mechanic of Blue Lug Hatagaya. His new ride is Ultraromance’s signature, the Crust Bikes Romanceur.
Mr. Jugg is a bag designer for Fairweather. His new whip is the Velo Orange Polyvalent. He owns a geared bike for the first time in 20 years.
Konno boy is a professional custom bike painter for Cook Paint Works. He rides the Rivendell new Atlantis. Those Swift Industries pannier bags are stunning.
This is me. My name is Duncan. I collected used parts and build up AllCity Gorilla Monsoon. Before this trip, I ordered the Fairweather custom frame bag. I couldn’t wait to use it.
So can you guess where we went? From our bike set-ups, you might already know.
This time we went on a one-day bike camping trip in Yamanashi prefecture. Because we are camping beginners and couldn’t load a lot of camping products, we decided to stay in a lodge. Our final destination is Kubo campsite.
We took a train to Hashimoto station to begin the ride, then rode over 50km to the lodge.
On the way, we took a break in the ZEBRA coffee. Coffee and croissant were amazing.
It was always fun to browsing a supermarket in the countryside. They sell something different and way cheaper than in Tokyo.
We got BBQ ingredients there.
Don’t forget Asahi beer!
I didn’t know then but these up and down roads will be the 2020 Olympic road race course as well.
In addition, we tested the bikes on the dirt roads, which was very exciting.
Around 4 pm, we finally got the camping site.
We enjoyed the DIY wood-fired hot tub. It took about 45 minutes to reach a good temperature. These things have a wooden slotted panel on the bottom so you don’t get your foot burned.
We spent the rest of the night shooting the shit around the campfire. It was very relaxing.
The next morning, Konno boy cooked hot sandwiches for us.
That was delicious!
Just chilling by the riverside before checking out. This campsite is like a natural playground.
Zaki-ne is a lodge keeper. She was hella cool that she brewed coffee for us.
The return route was almost all downhill, so it wasn’t tough and enough for me so I rode a bike all the way home instead of taking a train.
Autumn is the best season for outside activities in Japan. Why don’t you bike camping?
