Bikes Checks! No.2
Hello again! My name is Sow Kaneko. I am a mechanic of Blue Lug Hatagaya.
I would like to show you bikes I built here.
Surly Long Haul Trucker 56cm
Hell yeah! Look at the big basket! I’ll talk about it later but let me tell you about basic components.
When I build the Surly LHT, it’s always like an old MTB. I don’t know why though, I guess I just like this style.
This style is great for a commuter as well.
The tires are WTB Nano, which is one of the popular tires of ours.
It’s tough and gives you smooth riding.
Actually the 26inch is a discontinued model, so it is pretty rare.
The Surly nice rack is strong enough to hold the big basket.
And the top board is big, which is great.
The owner needed this basket for his best friend.
The Shiba-Inu is super Kawaii! I got great vibes from them.
And this is the current setup.
He put cool stickers and I like that he used the black and yellow handlebar tape.
The owner is actually my Blue Lug cyclocross teammate.
He brought the feedback every time after races. And then we updated his bike together.
Even though we competed each other in a race, we built kind of a trusting relationship.
As a mechanic, this thing gives great pleasure.
Surly Cross Check Urly 58cm
This bike is too big for me so it was hard to do a test ride.
The owner worked for a clothing store and he is a nice guy.
He only said to me “I want a bike that looks like a tank.” I was like “Tank? Well, I’ll try.”
The handlebar is the Rivendell choco-norm bar. The saddle is the Brooks Flyer that he’s been using for a while.
This soma porter rack makes this bike looks like a tank, doesn’t it? Maybe?
He works for Pilgrim surf supply in Shibuya, and when Blue Lug had a pop up workshop there, I met him.
I would like to thank him to give me an opportunity to build this cool bike.
