Ritchey Ascent

Do you know Tom Ritchey? On the Japanese wikipedia doesn’t have a lot of information about him, but he is truly a legend. If you are familiar with Blue Lug, you might have seen Ritchey from this.

Dustin Klein from Cadence clothing brought this Ritchey bike last time he came to Japan for our event. This bike was so sick.

The guy on the left is Ritchey, and the guy on the right is Dustin. This collaboration can’t go wrong.

In addition, it looks like Dustin built up a new Ritchey bike, Ritchey Ascent.

This bike is designed for adventure like crossing America. It is capable of fitting 650b mountain tires and 700 road tires. This adventure frame is very unique since Ritchey makes a lot of MTB, road bikes and cyclocross bikes. I really wanted to built up this bike since I saw Dustin’s.

Anyhow, this is my friend, Norio. I built up his Steam Roller about a year ago, and he has an order-made Panasonic road bike. Yes, he is really into bikes. And this time I built up the Ritchey Ascent for him because he was looking for a bike that capable of bike camping and riding on gravel roads.

The seatpost is Nitto, which has a close relationship with Ritchey. I always enjoyed listening about Ritchey’s story from Nitto’s president, Mr. Yoshikawa.

It is hard to see on the photo, but I put the black color seatpost plates. I also changed the titanium bolt. This is like an homage to the Ritchey seatpost.

The handlebar is THOMSON Offroad bar.

The drivetrain components are SRAM Rival, which is not super expensive and works very well.

The hubs are Phil Wood.
The tires are W TB Resolute 650B, which are all-weather gravel tires. These are great for pavement road too.
The tan sidewall accent is a great match with the burgundy frame. This bike has a wide tire clearance, so I hope he will try wide mountain bike tires for the future.

The front rack is a Surly Nice rack. This is made of chromoly steel, which is lightweight and durable.

This bike is so sick!
