Hello everyone,<\/p>\n

This is Kaisei from Blue Lug Hatagaya.<\/p>\n

I’m writing about two bike builds I worked on recently. They were not a new bikes. It was a rebuild of two old bikes that the owners had for years. The reason why I’m saying \u201crebuild” instead of overhaul, is because most parts were new for this build.<\/p>\n

*SURLY* pacer (52)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

First, let’s take a look at this Surly Pacer, Surly’s legendary road frame. The Pacer was produced from 2003-2018 and according to the owner, the bike was purchased around 2008.<\/p>\n

I’d like to congratulate him for riding this bike for 18 years. It was an honor to work on a bike that has been ridden for such a long time.<\/p>\n

I could tell that the owner had spent a lot of time on this bike. I could also tell that he was very enthusiastic about bicycles in general.<\/p>\n

The big scar on the top tube, shredded bar tape and the dirt on the wheels…these may sound like I’m pointing out negative things, but I’m actually mentioning them to compliment the owner for riding so much. Worn out Surly bikes are always pleasant to look at.<\/p>\n

You may have already noticed, but the owner asked for a repaint as well, so we took the frame to Cook Paint Works for a fresh paint job.<\/p>\n

The frame finally arrived to the Hatagaya store location after 2 months. Once the frame is back from the paint studio, it’s time for us to choose the parts.<\/p>\n

The owner and I discussed how he wanted to ride the Pacer and what color parts he’d like to use. Moments like this is the most fun part about bike builds.<\/p>\n
